Don't stick to tradition black tie events, says expert

The fashion reporter for the Wall Street Journal has been giving readers tips on how to dress appropriately for black tie events.According to Teri Agins, black tie dressing for men does not need to be restricted to the traditional rules of black suit, white shirt and black bowtie. In contrast, men should follow their personal style tastes into suspenders, cummerbands or a gray necktie. However, Ms Agins said one thing men should not compromise on is their watch. The reporter said: "Nothing looks more elegant than a thin gold ... watch with a black lizard or alligator band."She added that although chunky gold watches are still fashionable, she believes they are too bulky to be worn, particularly if being worn with French cuffs.According to GQ, if a man considers buying a tuxedo for black tie events, he should make sure the one he invests in is timeless. The magazine said men should look out for a peak-lapel jacket with no more than two buttons for the classic look.
