US baby food producer Beech-Nut Nutrition Corporation is breaking ground on a new USD 124 million 550,000-square-foot “green certified” plant and headquarters in the town of Florida, located in Montgomery County, New York State.
Last week, New York State granted the company the environmental permits necessary to begin construction.
Beech-Nut will employ 356 people – including 135 news jobs – at the new facility. It is expected that the company will also rely on locally-grown food for its products.
“The new facility will be the most modern infant food plant ever built and will allow us to further expand our innovative offerings,” said Christoph Rudolf, President and CEO of Beech-Nut back in May 2007 when the company announced its new facility plans.
In an article published by FLEXNEWS, the company said that the state of New York would be offering substantial financial incentives to Beech-Nut to build the plant. These incentives will help Beech-Nut to accelerate its growth and innovation plans, and would further upgrade its infant-nutrition production technology.
Established in 1891, Beech-Nut entered the baby food industry in 1931. Beech-Nut is a subsidiary of the Hero Group of Lenzburg, Switzerland.
